To create a new look for your room you don’t have to buy new and expensive furniture. Instead, reupholster a chair that you already have at home. The picture features a chair re-upholstered with Joel Dewberry fabric. You can find more creative home décor ideas on Joel Dewberry’s website. The fabric used for this chair is called Ironwork and it is from Joel Dewberry’s Chestnut Hill Collection. We have it available on our Imagine Fabric website in the Eggplant Mix color scheme. Many of you probably have an old chair at home with a drop-in chair seat. Most drop-in chair seats are made with a simple piece of plywood with foam or stuffing on top. Here are some tips for you on how to reupholster the chair seat, giving it a new and exciting look. Steps: 1. Remove the seat; sometimes the chair seat may be secured with some screws that you can easily remove with a screwdriver. 2. Remove the staples that are holding the existing upholstery fabric in place (don't forget to view all our upholstery fabric). 3. Place the chair seat upside down on your new fabric and trace the outline of the seat on your new fabric. When cutting the fabric, add approximately 2 inches all around the edges. TIP: If you are using fabric that is loosely woven and frays easily, zigzag stitch all around the edges with your sewing machine. 4. Mark the center point of your chair seat. 5. Fold your fabric in half and mark the front and back center points of your fabric. 6. Place the chair seat upside down on the new upholster/home décor fabric and line up the center points of the chair seat to the center points of your fabric. 7. Start stapling the fabric to the chair seat at the center points of the front and back of the seat. Stop stapling about 2 inches before the corner. 8. Now repeat the stapling step for both left and right side of the chair seat. 9. After you have stapled all fours sides of the chair, neatly fold the corners before stapling. 10. Now put the finished stapled seat back on your chair and voila, you have a beautiful new piece of furniture. ![]() ![]() ![]() by: Imagine Fabric |
