If you just recently joined the quilting world, you most likely have not invested in a quilting designing software yet. But that will not prevent your from starting to design you first quilt. All you need is some graph paper and creativity.

Featured on the left is my personal attempt of creating my next quilting pattern. It is very simple as you can see but drafting will open the door to endless design possibilities.

Just start by drawing some simple blocks. Next thing you know, you will be drawing your own quilting patterns. I used some free graph paper that Moda made available for all of us to use. Just print it out, sharpen your pen, get your ruler and start drawing!

The easiest way to get sewing on a star quilt pattern is to use pre-cut quilt squares. Not only do they save you time but it will give you also an opportunity to use fabric from various fabric designers without having to purchase multiple yardage of each design. Use a pre-cut quilt square and cut it diagonal to get the triangle quilt square for the above star quilt pattern. I cannot wait to get started on my star bannered quilt.
